Sam continued his rugby career at the collegiate level with the University of Louisville Cardinals, where he competed for the Division 1-AA national champion program.

Sam was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the University of Louisville. Before college, his passion for history led him to serve on the student advisory board for Mount Vernon Estate.
His experience with vision loss also inspired him to help others. Beginning at age 13, Sam volunteered as a Sight Guide for Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind in Virginia, giving his time to support people facing challenges with vision.

He is also survived by his grandparents Kathleen Keller and Louis and Jean West; aunts and uncles Heather and Phil Musser, Brook and Patrick McArthur, Heidi Keller and Kim Estlack, Robin and Jeff Ferris, and Kristen and Chip Riggs; and cousins Abby and Alex Musser, Grace and Grant McArthur, Michael Peraldo, and Griffin Miller.
